[Also in Group XIII] The pressure of air or gas being heated in a ceramic-walled recuperator 2 is reduced to the pressure of the flue gases in the recuperator by introducing into the air or gas leaving the recuperator a stream of gas under pressure directed towards the combustion chamber 1 of a furnace. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a blower 9 delivers flue gas from a flue 3 to an injector 7 in a venturi passage supplying fuel gas from the recuperator 2 to the chamber 1. The supply of flue gases to the nozzle 7 is con. trolled by a damper 11 regulated by the pressures of the fuel gas in the pipe 4 leading to the recuperator and of the flue gases in the pipe 11. A damper in the flue 3 is controlled by the pressure in the chamber 1. A valve 17 controlled by a temperature-responsive element 18 in the combustion chamber controls the fuel gas supply, and the air supply is correspondingly regulated by a valve 21 controlled in response to pressures in the gas, and air supply pipes 4, 12. In a modification, Fig. 3, the nozzle 34 induces a flow of fuel gas from a recuperator into a tube 40 composed of inter-fitting refractory rings, and the mixture delivered into the outlet 42 to the combustion chamber induces a flow of air from another recuperator. A pearshaped obturator 35 in the nozzle 34 is carried by rod 36 movable by hand or by a piston in a cylinder under the control of the pressure of the flue gas delivered by the blower and of the fuel gas supplied to the recuperator.
