Abstract
783,943. Mixing fluids particularly air and combustible gases. STEIN & ATKINSON, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1955 [Dec. 20, 1954], No. 35036/55. Class 75(1) Apparatus for mixing fluids particularly combustible gas and air for feeding to a burner comprises a plurality of supply conduits e.g. an air conduit 22 and one or more gas conduits 16 having fixed flow orifices, e.g. venturi orifices 12, 18, these supply conduits delivering into a mixture conduit 14 having a control valve 15 linked to an adjustable valve 19 in all but one of the supply conduits and situated above or below the orifices to actuate the valves 19 in fixed relation with the valve 15 there being means such as regulator 17 back loaded by pipe 21 to the air pipe 22 for maintaining constant the pressure of the air and gases supplied to the conduit 14. As shown the gas mixture is fed to a furnace under the control of a thermocouple 25a and servomotor device 25, 24 operating a push rod 23 coupled to the valve 15 and to a cam 27 operating the valve 19. The cam 27 is calibrated so that for all positions of the valve 15 the air-gas ratio in the mixture is constant. To produce a constant pressure mixture for applying to a plurality of furnace zones, the temperature control device 25a, 25, 24 may be replaced by an instrument responsive to gas pressure down stream of the valve 15.
