182,573. Igranic Electric Co., Ltd., (Cutler-Hammer Manufacturing Co.). April 7, 1921. Calorimeters.- In a continuous-flow calorimeter in which gas and air are supplied to a burner in proportioned quantities to form a combustible mixture, the air supply is divided into two parts, one part being mixed with the gas prior to combustion and being itself insufficient to support combustion, while the other part is delivered at the point of combustion. The general arrangement is similar to that described in Specification 153,817, gas and air for combustion and air to absorb the heat generated being supplied by meters 2, 3, 4 respectively, the meters being mounted in a common tank 5 and geared together so as to rotate at constant relative speeds. The burner comprises two concentric tubes 20, 21 communicating respectively with chambers 24, 25 which in turn communicate, through adjustable valves 29, 30, with a chamber 26. The delivery pipe 28 from the meter 2 passes into the chamber 26, the valves being adjusted to allow part of the air to enter the chamber 24, the remainder passing directly to the tube 21, which projects above the tube 20. The lower ends of the tubes 27, 28 preferably project into the water in the tank 5.
