Calorimeters.-In a continuous flow gas calorimeter in which resistance thermometers are subjected to the initial and final temperatures of a fluid which absorbs the heat of combustion, the thermometers are so constructed that their resistance coefficients vary in such a way that a constant relation between their resistances is maintained for a given calorific value of the gas, irrespective of the actual temperature level at which the test is carried out. The invention is described in connection with a calorimeter of the kind described in Specification 153,817, each of the thermometers containing for example nickel and copper in such proportions that the desired result is obtained despite variations in the specific heat of the heat-absorbing air and in the vapour content of the test gas, caused by variations in the temperature of the water tank containing the wet meters supplying the gas &c. Specification 18495/14 also is referred to.
