535,482. Heating gases. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., SILVER, L., and MACCORMAC, M. Oct. 9. 1939, No. 27549. [Class 64 (i)] A stream of combustible gas flowing through a casing 10 from an inlet 11 to an outlet 12 is heated by drawing part of the main stream through a nozzle 19 by air supplied under pressure through a pipe 17, burning the mixture and returning the hot gases to the main stream. An electrical ignition device 32 is withdrawn after combustion has been started. The quantity of gas withdrawn is regulated by adjusting the distance of a nozzle 18 on the air supply pipe from the contraction of the nozzle 19. The combustion chamber may be arranged outside the casing, and the nozzle 18 may project into a combustion chamber which is provided with apertures for the entrance of gas withdrawn from the stream.
