Abstract

789,701. Generating combustion products under pressure. JUNKERS & CO., GES. Nov. 1, 1955 [Nov. 2, 1954], No. 31154/55. Class 51 (1). An oscillating column type of combustion apparatus comprises a combustion chamber 6 which is connected to an exhaust chamber 11 by means of a plurality of resonant tubes 10, 101, an exhaust pipe 15 leading from the exhaust chamber. A device is provided for initiating operation of the apparatus and is directly associated with one of the plurality of resonant tubes and not with the combustion chamber or the exhaust pipe and is adapted to supply an initial charge of gaseous fuel and air into the combustion chamber. The device for initiating operation comprises an injector 12 projecting into the exhaust chamber opposite the resonant tube 10, a jet 13 on a combustible gas pipe 14 being directed into the injector so that when gas is supplied through the pipe 14 a mixture of gas and air passes through the injector 12 into the resonant tube 10 to the combustion chamber 6 where the mixture is ignited by the pilot flame 9 which is disposed opposite the aperture 7. The ignition of the charge sets the apparatus into operation, combustible gas being supplied through the pipe 1 and air through the inlet 3.
