Abstract
619,353. Generating combustion products under pressure. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd., and ALLEN, S. Dec. 4, 1946, No. 35869. [Class 51 (i)] Fuel and primary combustion air are admitted at the ends 18 of J-shaped tubes 19 which are surrounded by the burning gases issuing from the backwardly turned ends 20. The quantity of primary air is regulated in agreement with the fuel supply by means of a disc valve 25. Secondary air passes into the chamber 12, containing the tubes 19, through annular openings 34, 35 and, in the construction shown in end view in Fig. 4, through fish-tail burner-like tubes 39 with their down-stream ends reduced to diametral slots 40. The rest of the compressor delivery passes through the annular space 14 to mix with the products of completed combustion. The primary air valve 25 may be coupled with the engine throttle with means for giving an altitude correction. Specifications 577,865 and 603,485 are referred to.
