Abstract

738,811. Gas-turbine plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. May 1, 1952 [May 10, 1951], No. 11019/51. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XIII] In a gas-turbine plant, air is preheated by turbine exhaust gases in a regenerator which surrounds a combustion chamber 1 the gases from which are passed to the turbine. The regenerator (see Group XIII) comprises a number of units, e.g. 10, 20, the flow through which, in cyclic sequence, of heating gas and air to be heated is controlled by cam or hydraulically operated poppet valves. Guide vanes 24 direct heated air towards the combustion chamber 1, some air entering the primary combustion zone of the flame tube 2 whilst the remainder forms an annular, cooling flow about the flame tube and enters the latter towards its downstream end. Hot gases from the flame tube pass to the pipe 3 and thence to the turbine.
