Abstract

819,834. Supplying oxygen. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERK A.G. April 15, 1957 [April 16, 1956], No. 12301/57. Class 51 (1). In a reverberatory furnace heated by a fuel blast directed at a small angle on to the charge and supplied with preheated air from above additional oxygen is supplied under pressure to the lower side of the flame. Liquid fuel from twin jets 9 burns with preheated air supplied above the burners from a duct 4 to form a flame 8 directed on to the charge at a small angle. Oxygen from a jet 6 is supplied to the underside of the flame at a position determined .by the angle at which the jet 6 is set. The hot part of the flame produced by the oxygen is shielded from the roof of the furnace by the cooler flame above it. The oxygen jet 6 is between and below the plane of the oil jets 9, and the supply of oxygen may be controlled.
