Abstract
1382111 Vaporizing burners BURNHAM CORP 11 Jan 1972 [11 Jan 1971] 1320/72 Heading F4T A burner for gasifiable liquid fuel comprises a combustion chamber 10 formed in a refractory body 5 and fed with a fuel/air mixture from a mixing chamber 6, some of the combustion products being fed back to chamber 6 via a port 14, a continuous pipe 17 external to body 5 and inlet 8 to vaporize fuel fed into pipe 17 at a point 28 proximate to body 5, the heat of vaporization of the fuel acting to cool the combustion gases and to reduce thermal stresses in the burner. Air is supplied under pressure via a Venturi 22. To start up, fuel in liquid form is supplied to a nozzle 33 and ignition effected by an igniter plug 35, a valve 31 then being closed and a valve 27 opened to supply the fuel to inlet 8 after gasification. The fuel in liquid form is supplied, under gravity or mechanical pressure, to a pipe 25. After start up, fuel may be supplied via both inlet 8 and nozzle 33 if the combustion gases entering chamber 6 at inlet 8 are sufficiently hot to effect gasification of the fuel from nozzle 33. Valves 27, 31 may be automatically operated by a sequence timer and may be combined at inlet 25.
