Liquid, gaseous, and pulverulent fuel furnaces. -In a furnace consuming liquid, gaseous, and powdered fuels an air register 17 is slidably mounted on guide rails 18 so that it may be easily removed through an opening 34 in the air box wall 33. The air register comprises a number of slightly curved doors 32 carried by arms 31 which can be swung about their pivots by rotating a slotted ring 25 by means of pinion 28 fitted with an operating handle 29. The ring 25 is revolubly mounted in a coverplate 20 which is bolted to the flange 23 of the air register and to the wall 33. A circular cover 38 revolubly and removably mounted in the plate 20 is formed with a central bearing 47 in which is mounted a burner for gas alone or gas carrying powdered fuel. The burner comprises two coaxial tubes 50, 53, fitted with an annular burner head 60 provided with a series of holes 61 or an annular slit arranged at an angle of about 60‹ to the axis of the tubes. The tubes 50, 53, screw into a hollow member 55 communicating with the fuel supply tube 57. An oil spraying burner 62 may be secured by a yoke 63 inside the tube 53. The burners project into a metal cone 12 which fits in an opening in the burner front and is formed with a gapped lip 15 over which are fitted removable bricks or tiles 16. The air is directed on to the burner flame by inclined vanes 14 and by a deflector 68 which may be withdrawn to the position shown in Fig. 2 when gas alone is being burnt. When oil alone is being burnt the deflector is moved to the position shown in Fig. 7 and by means of a three-way valve 58 additional air may be supplied through the burner head 60, When the oil burner is removed a plug 74 may be inserted in the tube 53. A ring 25<1> spaced away from the plate 20 shields the door mechanism from the heat of the burner flame.
