Abstract
556,110. Crucible and melting-pot furnaces. FOUNDRY REFRACTORIES, Ltd., and TYRER, B. P. March 16, 1942, No. 3411. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A crucible or melting pot furnace comprises a crucible &c. chamber 13 heated by gas from a producer 12 from which gas passes into a vertical flue 18 and is delivered tangentially into the lower part of the chamber 13. Air for combustion is supplied by a fan 19 through conduits in the furnace walls to the ashpit of the producer and to the vertical flue 18 to pass with the gas into the chamber 13. Gases leave the upper part of the chamber 13 through a tangential flue 22. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, air is supplied from the blower 19 to a conduit 24 and a damper divides the air into two portions one passing into the chamber 13 tangentially to meet the gas from the flue 18 and the other passing through a flue 21 around and beneath the chamber 13 to the ashpit of the producer 12. Gases escape from the chamber 13 through openings 26 to exhaust flues 25, 22 in which may be arranged a thermostat to control the air supply to the producer and crucible chamber.
