[Class 51 (i)] [Also in Groups XXX and XXXV] A furnace is provided with a channel-shaped firepot fed at one end with fuel by a reciprocating pusher and fitted at the opposite end with a yieldable ash-discharge door, the resistance of the latter being variable by means of an adjustable counterweight so that, for a particular fuel, the requisite amount of ash collects in front of the door to reduce the effective grate area to a value at which equilibrium between the rate of combustion and the rate of fuel feed is maintained. The apparatus described is identical with that described in Specification 627,554.
