Abstract

1,039,265. Charging blast furnaces. DEMAG A.G. April 16, 1963, No. 14949/63. Heading F4B. Apparatus for charging blast furnaces comprises a central feed pipe 2 incorporating a hopper 3 and having a cranked, rotary discharge shoot 4 driven by a pinion 9 and ring gear 10 and having an internal guide plate 11, the mouth of said shoot 4 extending downwardly and forwardly in the direction of rotation with its forward edge lower than the rear edge. Hopper 3 is supported from the superstructure 12 carrying feed conveyers 1. Gas-tight flap valves 17a, 17b can isolate hopper 3 and packings 7 and 8 respectively seal the rotary shoot 4 to the pipe 2 and the shaft furnace top. Stock level indicators 13 extending through the said top may control the blast pressure and the operation of valves 17a, 17b. A further discharge shoot or a valve may be disposed diametrically opposite shoot 4. This latter is supported by rollers 15 on arms extending therefrom, the bearings being screened by sheet metal plates 18. The feed pipe and/or the shoot may be telescopically arranged.
