Abstract

929,023. Mixing-apparatus. MACHINEFABRIEK FRANS SMULDERS N.V. Jan. 25 1960 [Jan. 28, 1959], No. 2650/60. Class 86. [Also in Group XXX] Mixing-apparatus comprises a vessel having a conveyer therein close to the well and having its conveying capacity increasing towards its discharge end, and a non-rotating casing extending the whole length of the conveyer but only part of the way round it. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, a conical vessel 1 has a screw conveyer 2 of upwardly increasing capacity mounted on a rotatable support 4 and a swing link 9; the conveyer is rotated by driven shaft 13 and chain gearing 10, 11, 12. A casing 15 extending part of the way only round the screw 2 is secured to the support 4 and link 9 and has a discharge outlet 18. In operation, the reaction of the drive 10, 12 causes the screw to revolve round the vessel taking up material from all levels therein and feeding it back through discharge outlet 18. The vessel has a delivery outlet 19 with valve 20 and an inlet 21, 22, 23, 24 for fluid additives; the channel 21 may be heated. The screw 2 may alternatively be revolved round the vessel by a gear on its shaft engaging a rack in the inner wall of the vessel, or by driving the rotatable support 4. In a modification, the vessel 1 may be rotated. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the mixing vessel consists of two concentric cylinders 32, 33 forming an annular mixing space, the conveying screw 2 and its casing 15 being mounted on a carriage 34, 35 running on the upper edges of the cylinders. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the mixing vessel is rectangular and the screw reciprocates along it in the carriage 34, 35; alternatively the vessel may be reciprocated. The vessel may be shaped so that part of its wall constitutes the partially open casing of the screw (see Fig. 5).
