Abstract
1,227,844. Mixing apparatus. D. BOENISCH. 7 March, 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 11098/68. Heading B1C. [Also in Divisions B3 and B8] Batch mixers. A container 10, Fig. 1, is given a motion of translation in a circle by an unbalanced weight 17 such that particulate material 20 (e.g. formed of sand) separates from the side of the container leaving a gap of 10-30 mm. The container wall may be wholly or partly as at 21 lined with elastic material to reduce adhesion of the material to the well, which may have ledges to improve transmission of the motion to the material. There may be a loose metal pane scraper (18, Fig. 2 not shown) rotated by the action of the material. The container may have a coaxial tube 25, when the material passes from the outer to the inner space mixing taking place in the annular space between them. Circulation may be induced by using a container which is conical (see Fig. 7, not shown) or has a cone-shaped bottom (see Fig. 6, not shown) and/or is kidney-shaped (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown); or by a stationary or rotatable screw (Fig. 12, not shown). Several containers may be supported detachably by a table (10', Figs. 13 and 14, not shown). There may be an S-shaped or other paddle 27 or roller which may be elastic and stationary (Fig. 16) or rotatable preferably counter to the rotation of the material (Figs. 18 and 19, not shown); if stationary, it may be fixed to the container as shown, or to an independant support (Fig. 17, not shown). Material which is too dry will be ejected from the container (Fig. 20, not shown) and can be tested and water or binding agent added until the stream ceases. The composition may be determined. by measuring the torque on the mixing tools which may be coordinated with the pressure of the material against a sensor to connect the composition automatically. There may be a plurality of rotatable mixing shafts (55, Fig. 26 not shown), both shafts and paddles being hollow and having outlets (56) for cooling air. In a further embodiment (Fig. 27, not shown) there may be a vertically reciprocating agitator (27) with apertures (57) therein. In a further embodiment the apparatus is charged and discharged by compressed air or suction (Figs. 29 and 30, not shown). Continuous discharge mixers. The container may comprise two tubes 37, 38, Fig. 21 with feed regulating device 43 and discharge regulating and shut-off valves 41; the tubes may alternatively be in series (Fig. 22, not shown) with air inlets (56) for heating and cooling, grinding roller (49) and screen (48). In another embodiment there may be a single horizontal or inclined to tubular container (51, Figs. 24 and 25, not shown) which may have a rotatable agitator (27) supported on its inner surface without bearings. Cooling air may enter through apertures (56) in the hollow shaft (see Fig. 28, not shown) and leave through perforations (58) in the container wall.
