Abstract

The wind box 7 below the travelling grate 1 of a sintering machine is divided by longitudinal partitions 8 so that the rate of flow of gas through the material on the grate can be controlled across the width of the grate. Dampers 11 controlling the suctions may be controlled by thermostats in the appropriate compartment of the wind box. The rate of gas flow at sides of the bed is controlled to be not more than that of the middle of the bed.
