Abstract

148,486. Utica Heater Co., (Assignees of Doherty, J.). Sept. 20, 1917, [Convention date]. Sectional boilers.-Air for combustion is supplied to the rear of a. boiler furnace having an horizontal up-draught grate through a conduit at the bottom of a transverse depending water-containing baffle in front of the fire-bridge. In a sectional boiler with vertical sections 2, the front sections having transverse water passage 2<1> which separate the furnace chamber from the longitudinal flue 4, the baffle is formed by a water wall D extending downwards from one of the transverse water passages. The front of the water wall is protected by a fire-brick covering 5. The bottom of the wall is formed with teeth-like projections, which support L-shaped bricks forming two sides of the air conduit A. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the air-supply conduit is formed by partitioning off the bottom part of the water wall. Apertures E at the top of the water wall allow pocketed gases to escape. The transverse water passages on both sides of the water wall have inclined projections 2<a>. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
