Abstract

Compound boilers.-An independent steam generator fitted on the furnace flues of a boiler and adapted to supply small quantity of highpressure steam for special purposes as described in Specifications 8559/11, 27653/12 and 17444/14 is of non-cvlindrical form and surrounds one or more furnace flues. The shell 10 of an auxiliary generator surrounds the furnace flues 1, 2 of a return-tube boiler and extends along the whole length of the flues. The shell is riveted to the front and back tubeplates and is stayed to the side furnace flues and to the bottom of the boiler shell. Stays 30 support the upper part of the generator. Highpressure steam is taken from the generator through a pipe 36 extending through the front of the boiler. The generator is flooded with water when not in use as an independent generator in the manner described in Specification 27655/12. In modifications, the generator extends upwardly into the boiler water space and is traversed by the boiler smoke-tubes.
