472,133. Heating feedwater. CLAY, J. R. May 26, 1936, No. 14804. Addition to 390,884. [Class 64 (i)] In the feedwater heating system comprising a feed heater 13 connected to the boiler by a pipe 22 to allow boiler water to circulate through the heater when the feed is delivered directly to the boiler through a pipe 16 as described in the parent Specification, the pipe 22 is provided with a valve 21 which closes automatically when the feed is supplied through the heater and which opens when the feed is supplied directly. The pipe 20 connecting the upper part of the heater to the boiler may be provided with a non-return valve which upon closing may close an electric circuit containing electromagnets operating shut-off valves isolating the heater. When the heater is isolated, the feed pump may be used to circulate de-scaling liquid through it.
