Abstract
472,479. Heating water by electricity. HARLING, S. C. March 20, 1936, No. 8330. [Class 39 (iii)] A boiler J is heated by current passing through the water therein between immersed electrodes, and water is supplied to the boiler from a tank Q under the control of valve C, while a release pipe M, connected to the boiler below the lowest working water level, is also provided through which water is forced back to tank Q when steam is generated in the heater. The electric current supplied to the boiler is reduced by the water level falling and uncovering the electrodes and thus the water is prevented from exceeding a predetermined temperature. The boiler supplies hot water through a valve Ub to a sink ZT. When this valve is shut the pressure in the boiler increases and steam is generated which is supplied for use through valve Ua. Alternatively by shutting all valves except valves A and F the boiler may be placed in circulating connection with a steam heated apparatus Z. When used in this manner the pipe M1 acts in a similar manner to pipe M and prevents the generation of excessive steam pressures.
