[Cognate Application, 30,133/10.] Incrustation, preventing.-In apparatus for supplying lime-water to the feed-water of steamboilers, of the kind comprising a vessel containing lime through which feed-water is passed, in order to prevent, at the starting of the apparatus, the water from taking up a larger quantity of lime than is required, part or the whole of the water, instead of passing through the lime, may be directed through an alternative passage. The feed-water outlet-pipe i<3> of the injector i communicates with the bottom and top of the vessel a containing lime through branch pipes j, j<1> fitted with cocks k, k<1>. Water enters the conical bottom b through a nozzle c, and, after passing through the lime, flows around a conical baffle g and through wire gauze or other filtering-medium fitted over the inlet f to a compartment e formed by a partition depending from the cover d. The filling-opening is closed by a cover provided with a cock which allows air collecting in the vessel to escape. The water is led off through a sight-glass m. In a modification, the baffle g is formed with a serrated bottom, and rests upon a ledge in the vessel.
