Abstract

29,191. Harding, L. Dec. 18. Liquids and gases, separating.-Air is eliminated from the feed-water .of steam-generators to prevent corrosion, by passing the water through a closed chamber a, Fig. 1, from which the air is exhausted by means of a pipe d and pump or the like c, and within which the water is broken up into small particles. The feedwater service pipe b is controlled by a float valve f, and the treated water passes through a pipe p into a tank f<1>, whence it is withdrawn by a boiler feed-pump or injector c. A water-seal chamber q is provided in the tank, and an emergency float valve s allows water to be fed directly to the tank f<1> should failure of the chamber a occur. The chamber a, Fig. 2, is fitted with a valve h for giving a conical shower, and with a perforated plate j and shallow dishes k, m, n, o. The water may be heated by steam jets or coils.
