Abstract
215,832. Johnson, J. E., and Hick, Hargreaves, & Co., Ltd. Feb. 14, 1923. Liquids and gases, separating.-In a plant for de-aerating feed-water of the kind comprising a heater d and a de-aeration vessel a, into which the heated water is sprayed and from which air and gases are exhausted, the water is supplied to the lower part of the de-aeration vessel and is directed upwardly in a fine spray. The water inlet pipe a<1> terminates in the deaeration vessel in a series of jets or nozzles a<2>. A steam-jet ejector b draws air and gases from the vessel through a trap b<1> draining into the vessel. The feed-water passes through pipe coils in the heater and is heated by steam from the ejector and from the engines. The passage of water into the deaeration vessel is controlled by a float valve a<5>. The heater drain pipe d<6> may discharge into a well f, which is so connected to the de-aeration vessel by a pipe f<1> that water may pass from the well into the vessel under the control of a float valve f<2>. The suction side of the discharge pump c is connected to the de-aeration vessel by a pipe c<1>.
