Abstract
225,271. Fothergill, H. Aug. 24, 1923. Separate heater and evaporator apparatus; vapours, utilizing for effecting further evaporation. -In evaporating-apparratus of the kind described in Specification 211,924 in which the liquid to be evaporated is maintained in circulation by a pump through a heater and an evaporating-chamber under lower pressure, the evaporating-chamber surrounds the heater, and the liquid is sprayed into it. The liquid is forced by a pump g through tubes t surrounded by steam, and passes through nozzles h into the evaporating-chamber e. Highpressure steam may be passed into the heater either directly or through one or more ejector nozzles s which compress a portion of the steam from the evaporating-chamber into the heater. The headers x, y may be divided into compartments so that the liquid passes through groups of tubes in series. The lower header may be connected to the heating-tubes only, the supply and discharge fittings being on the top header, so that the heater may be readily removed and replaced. The nozzles may be arranged to discharge the liquid against the inner surface of the vessel e. Baffles may be arranged in the evaporator to prevent passage of entrained water in the steam space and to cause deposition of solid matters in the water space. A continuous discharge of concentrated liquid takes place through a pipe n on the discharge side of the pump g, and fresh liquid is supplied through a pipe m and a float valve to maintain a definite level. The heater may be arranged horizontally.
