Abstract
339,948. Burridge G. W. Sept. 13, 1929. Emptying water-pipes.-In a water supply system with a valve located within a cistern and an air vent for admitting air to the pipe system whereby the pipes may be emptied independently of the cistern, the air vent pipe is external to the valve and within the cistern and communicates with a coupling unit at the head of the outlet pipe immediately below the seating for the valve. In Fig. 1, a chaincontrolled valve 4 comprises a disc 7, washer 8 and guide 9 and is lowered on a seat 5 when the supply pipes are to be emptied, air then passing to the pipes through a pipe 11. In a modification, Fig. 5, the valve is guided by a stud 45 and the vent pipe 44. In a hot and cold water supply system, as shown in Fig. 3, valves 4 are provided on the cold supply pipe 2 and the inlet pipe 13 to the heating means and a bye-pass 17 is provided for the hot water tank 13a. The main supply pipe, after being shut off, is emptied through a cock 18 after venting the pipe as by opening the ball valve 21 in the cistern 3 or by opening a supplementary valve in the ball valve, which supplementary valve may be operated by the chains 12 controlling the valves 4. The valves 4 being shut and the bypass 17 opened, the remaining pipes may be emptied through the household taps &c. In a modification, Fig. 4, a single outlet 23 leads to the cold supply 25 and to the inlet 26 for the heating means, the hot water pipes being emptied through a cock 37.
