369,439. Gas valves for water heaters. ASKANIA-WERKE AKT. - GES. VORM. CENTRALWERKSTATT DESSAU UND C. BAMBERG-FRIEDENAU, 1, Unruhstrasse, Dessau, Germany. April 23, 1931, No. 12072. Convention date, July 28, 1930. [Class 135.] A valve device for a water heater normally actuated by the gas pressure to act as a pressure regulator is provided with means adapted to close the valve in the event of the water supply failing. The gas valve 12 is coupled by a spindle 12a to a weighted diaphragm subject to the pressure in the outlet conduit 17. The two sides of a construction 2 in the water conduit 1 are connected by pipes 3, 4 to the opposite sides of a spring-loaded plunger or diaphragm coupled to a spindle 9 having a lost-motion connection with the valve member so that' while sufficient water is flowing the spindle 9 is withdrawn from engagement with the valve. In order that the valve may open slowly the chamber above the diaphragm 15 is connected to atmosphere through an aperture 22 controlled by a leaky non-return valve 21. A similar device may be arranged in a conduit supplying actuating pressure to the diaphragm. The lower diaphragm may be actuated by the water conduit pressure alone in place of by the pressure difference across a restriction in the water conduit.
