[Class 64 (i)] [See also Group XXIX] In a liquid heater with a differential pressure operated valve 25 in the cold water inlet pipe 13 controlling the supply, a cold water branch 23 byepassing the heater and delivering cold water direct to a mixing device in the outlet 20 is connected with the water supply at a point between the control valve and the device 17 producing differential pressure for actuating the valve. Water entering at 13 is heated in a gilled pipe 21 by gas supplied through a valve 7 loaded by a spring 6 and connected by a rod 5 to a diaphragm 4 carrying an apertured piston valve 25 sliding in a fixed sleeve 27 apertured at 26 and carried on the valve casing 3. Between the piston valve 25 and a choke member 17 in the cold water inlet pipe 14 is a branched cold water pipe 23 connected through a tap 22 with the hot water outlet 20. The chamber 18 above the diaphragm 4 communicates through a passage 28 with the pipe 14. A choke 30 larger than the choke 17 may be placed in the pipe 23 to prevent cold water from flowing exclusively therethrough.
