Abstract
844,182. Electric water heaters. PLOW, R. S. S. Nov. 18, 1958 [Nov. 20, 1957], No. 36071/57. Addition to 836,448. Class 39(3). [Also in Group XXIX] In a water heater according to the parent Specification, i.e. comprising an annular heating chamber 2 containing a spirally wound sheathed electric heating element 3 to which supply of current is controlled by a switch 7 closed by water pressure acting on a diaphragm 10 forming one wall of a closed chamber 11 connected by a pipe 24 to an inlet pipe 16, there is provided a spring-loaded valve 18 interposed in a conduit 15 leading from a tap 17 in the water supply pipe 16 to the inlet 12 to the heating chamber; and the diaphragm chamber 11 is connected to the conduit 15 at a point 23 between the tap 17 and the valve 18, which is arranged to open under pressure to admit water to the heating chamber. The valve ensures a higher pressure on the diaphragm and comprises a ball 18 co-operating with a seat which is notched or grooved, thus allowing a restricted flow of water when the valve is closed. The valve ball 18 is urged down by a spring 20, the pressure on which may be adjusted by a screw plug 21. Hot water is delivered through the pipe 13.
