Abstract

1,195,509. Hot water systems. DANFOSS A.S. 2 Oct., 1968 [7 Oct., 1967], No. 46804/68. Heading F4A. In a central heating installation having room heaters 4 supplied with hot water through a line 1 from a district heating system and a domestic hot water heat exchanger 11 connected across the supply and return lines 1, 2 of the heaters 4 so as to be heated by water tapped from line 1 means are provided to satisfy the heat requirements of the heat exchanger 11 in preference to those of the heaters 4. The means comprises a connecting line 18 between line 1 and a point 19 in line 2 intermediate a control valve 5 and a metering baffle 6. Valve 5 controls the flow of hot water through the heaters 4 in response to the pressure difference between a point downstream of baffle 6 and a point 22 upstream of a metering baffle or needle valve 21 in connecting line 18. The latter also includes a valve 20 controlled in response to the temperature of the heated water leaving the heat exchanger 11 through a line 15 for domestic use. The flow of hot water from line 1 to heat the heat exchanger 11 is controlled by a valve 16, also in response to the temperature of the water leaving through line 15. When no heat exchanger heating is required, valves 16, 20 remain shut and all the hot water in line 1 flows to the heaters 4 and then through a preheater 13 in the return line 2. If the temperature of the water leaving through line 15 drops, valve 16 opens to divert same of the hot water from line 1 to heat the heat exchanger 11. At the same time, or when the heat exchanger temperature has fallen still further, valve 20 opens to cause a rise in water pressure at point 22 so that an actuator 7 progressively shuts the control valve 5 and all the hot water from line 1 passes to the heat exchanger 11. The heaters 4 may include hot water control valves responsive to air temperature.
