Abstract

1280098 Water heater JOH VAILLANT KG 29 Sept 1970 [29 Oct 1969] 46154/70 Heading F4A A water heater has boiler 6 of a service-water supply system and heat exchanger 7 of a circulatory water heating system disposed in a steam chamber 5. Two temperature or pressure responsive sensors 15, 20 operate switches 16, 21 connected in parallel to valve 17 controlling gas supply to heater 4. While the circulatory system, represented by radiator 8 and circulator 9 is operating, sensor 15 holds the temperature of the steam in chamber 5 at a fairly high level, e.g. 105‹ C. and the service water boiler 6 is cooled by returned heating water passed through tubes 14. A thermostat 19 turns off the circulator 9 when the heating system is not required. When this occurs switch 16, which is connected in series with the thermostat, becomes inoperative. Sensor 20 then takes over control and holds the temperature at a lower value, e.g. 90‹ C., so that the temperature of the water in boiler 6 is not excessive. A single sensor, adjusted to operate at two different levels, may be used.
