Abstract

The boiler has a primary water heater (3) and a burner (4). The primary circuit contains a motorised three way valve (11) which diverts the water either to a space heating circuit (13, 19) or to the primary of a domestic hot water calorifier (8). There are thermostats in the boiler flow (10), the primary flow to the calorifier (15), the primary return from the calorifier (18) and the secondary of the calorifier (16). The control circuit operates the three way valve (11) to give preference to the calorifier when the secondary temperature (16) drops. When the difference between the secondary temperature and the primary return temperature drops below a preset value the controls close the calorifier circuit and open the heating circuit. This results in more efficient operation of the burner.
