Abstract

1,221,965. Central heating systems; controlling burners. JUNKERS & CO. G.m.b.H. 10 April, 1968 [12 April, 1967], No. 17155/68. Headings F4T and F4U. [Also in Division G3] A gas-fired circulating water heater for heating installations comprises a water deficiency safety device 14 having two pressure chambers 16, 17 isolated from each other and adapted to cut off a gas supply 12 in dependence upon the pressure difference between the chambers, and an electrically driven water circulating pump 25 controlled by means E which, in dependence upon a variable such as the temperature of a space to be heated, momentarily switches off the pump at short intervals of time to reduce the pressure difference between the chambers 16, 17 and cut off the gas supply. The means E may be an electrical time switching device provided with R-C timing circuits or it may be a mechanical or electro-mechanical time switch periodically actuating an electrical switch or relay. A space thermostat or a forward flow thermostat may control the operation of the means E and the pulses produced by the pump are sufficient to maintain circulation in the installation when the burner is cold without open ing a valve 13 in the gas supply 12. An expansion tank 27 is provided between the heating elements 23 of the installation and the pump 25.
