Abstract
1,157,483. Thermal switches. H. BLANC, [trading as BLANC & CO.]. 21 July, 1966 [31 July, 1965], No. 32800/66. Heading H1N. In a temperature regulating device for an electric heater provided with at least two heating elements 62, 64 and a changeover switch 52, 56 for controlling heating elements 62, 64, the regulating device comprises a pressure capsule 40 which operates changeover switch 52, 56 in response to an increase or decrease in pressure of an expansion medium which is controlled by means of a temperature sensor 50, and a heating means 46 is provided for regulating the temperature at which pressure capsule 40 actuates the changeover switch. As shown for use in an electric cooker, knob 34 when turned closes contacts 14 energizing the main hot plate resistance 64 and the primary 20 of a potentiometer, the output from the secondary 24 of which is applied to heater 46 in capsule 40. At the desired temperature, depending on the setting of potentiometer secondary 24, the diaphragm 42 of capsule 40 charges over contacts 52, 56, disconnecting main hot-plate resistance 64 and energizing simmer hot-plate resistance 62 to maintain the temperature. In alternative embodiments, the expansion fluid heater 46 may be a heating jacket on the capillary tube, may heat a blind extension of the capillary tube, may heat a second capsule displacing the first, or may heat the sensor.
