Abstract
1,123,792. Oil heaters. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION (HOLDINGS) Ltd. 19 Feb., 1965 [19 Nov., 1963], No. 45709/63. Heading F4S. An oil heating installation comprises a steam flow path 2 in heat exchange with an oil flow path 1, an oil by-pass 6 not in heat exchange relationship with either path, a valve 5 (shown as a three-way valve operable mechanically, electrically or hydraulically) controlling the flow through the oil by-pass, and, located downstream with reference to oil flow, of the junction between the output of the oil flow path and the by-pass conduit, a thermally responsive element 10 exposed to the oil temperature at that location and operatively connected through a controller 11 to the oil flow control valve 5 to regulate the oil flow through the by-pass conduit 6. In a further arrangement (Fig. 2) the controller 11 also operates a valve (13) in the steam supply line to reduce steam flow as the oil temperature increases, the steam pressure being prevented from falling below a predetermined minimum slightly in excess of the oil pressure in the oil supply conduit, by a pressure reducing valve (14) connected in the steam supply line in parallel with the steam control valve (13). In use, the controller 11 operates the steam valve 13 through a first range of oil temperature, and the oil control valve 5 over a second and higher range of temperature. Alternatively the controller may operate first the oil control valve 5 and then the steam valve, or these valves may operate over overlapping temperature ranges.
