Abstract
808,034. Supplying oil to burners. CLEAVER-BROOKS CO. Dec. 13, 1956 [Jan. 18, 1956], No. 38065/56. Class 75(1) An oil fired burner system comprises a pump 20 supplying oil under pressure from a storage tank to a burner 10, a control valve 14 between the pump and the burner, a pressure relief line 24 including a pressure relief valve 23 connected to the supply line between the pump and control valve 14 and leading to the tank, a heater 25 interposed between the pressure relief line 24 and the control valve 14, a pressure reducing valve 36 between the heater and the control valve, an oil recirculation line 41 leading from the inlet of the control valve 14 to the tank and a restrictive orifice in the recirculation line 41 for limiting the flow to a value less than the capacity of the heater. The restrictive orifice is provided in the gate of a gate valve 42 in the recirculation line 41. A manually adjusted back pressure valve 43 in the recirculation line 41 between the gate valve 42 and the tank controls the flow of oil through the gate valve. The heater 25 includes an electrical heating element 27 controlled by a thermostat 28 connected in the supply line 26 leading from the heater. The heater is also supplied with steam heat through a conduit 29 controlled by a thermostat 31 associated with the heater. The control valve 14 may funcion automatically in response to burner demand to regulate the oil flow to the burner. A solenoid valve 16 is connected between the control valve 14 and the burner and is controlled to open and close automatically in response to burner demand. Opening of the solenoid valve 16 is prevented until the oil has reached a predetermined temperature by a temperature interlock 45 in the recirculation line 41. A by-pass line 47 provided with a by-pass valve 48 by-passes the pressure reducing valve 36, the control valve 14, the gate valve 42 and the back pressure valve 43 and is used to circulate the oil through the heater when the system is full of cold oil. Air is supplied to the burner nozzle through a line 11 and air for cleaning the oil supply lines between the solenoid valve 16 and the burner is supplied by a conduit 18 having a check valve 17. In a modificattion the by-pass line 47 is not provided and the back pressure valve 43 in the recirculation line 41 is replaced by a solenoid valve which at starting is open to allow circulation of the oil. When the oil reaches a predetermined temperature a temperatture interlock located between the heater and the pressure reducing valve 36 closes the solenoid valve in the recirculation line 41 and opens the solenoid valve 16 leading to the burner. The pump and heater may be interlocked with solenoid valve 16 and when the solenoid valve 16 closes the solenoid valve in the recirculation line automatically opens.
