Abstract

693,083. Supply and delivery arrangements for hot-water boilers. VAILLANT, H. Sept. 4, 1951, No. 20820/51. Class 64 (i). A gas-fired water heater for supplying boiling water comprises a water pipe coil 4 located around the wall of the heater flue 2 and passing through a finned heating element 3, and a spring-loaded pressure relief valve 29 arranged at the outlet end of the pipe coil. The gas supply to the burner 1 is controlled by a diaphragm 22 which is operated to open the gas valve 26 only when there is a sufficient flow of water to the pipe 4. The arrangement is such that water will only flow and be heated if its pressure is great enough to open the valve 29, and that the water cannot boil until it opens the valve 29 and flows off. The supply of water to the heater is controlled by a hand-operated valve 8 either with an associated by-pass 14 and auxiliary valve 10 or with a throttle, so arranged that when the valve 8 is being closed after the flow has been reduced enough for the gas valve 26 to close, an increase in flow is allowed to eject any hot water from the pipe system and replace it by cold water just before the valve closes.
