367,316. Gas-heated liquid heaters.' JUNKERS, H., 21, Kaiserplatz, Dessau, Anhalt, Germany. Nov. 10, 1931, No. 31166. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1930. [Class 135.] In an automatic control device for gas-heated water-heaters and the like, a Venturi tube is displaceably mounted in a casing in the water supply pipe and under excessive pressures, moves against the action of a spring to open a byepass for the liquid. A valve 15 controlling the gas supply to a burner 16 is actuated by a piston or diaphragm 14 subject to water pressure admitted through conduits 8, 12 connected respectively to the water inlet pipe 1, and the throat of a movable Venturi pipe 4 arranged in the casing 3. The Venturi 4 which is guided by radial wings and prevented from turning by strips 21, has its displacement limited by a stop 22. As soon as the pressure difference between the ends of the Venturi 4 is sufficient to overcome the action of the spring 5, the Venturi 4 moves to open the byepass valve 6, 7 and permit excess flow to pass between the outside of the Venturi 4 and the casing 3. In a modification, the passage of quantities of water which the burner 16 is inadequate to heat and damage to the diaphragm 14 are avoided by providing the Venturi with additional closures adapted to stop the flow through the byepass 6, 7 and to disconnect the pipe 12.
