Abstract
535,215. Valves. JONES & CO. (ENGINEERING), Ltd., S., and PHILLIPS, C. H. Aug. 30,1939, No. 24917. [Class 135] A control device for instantaneous water heaters of the kind in which the deliveries of hot and cold water are separately controlled and the heating device is controlled by the pressure of the water passing to the heater is fitted with means whereby the effective pressure of this stream may be adjusted. As shown, a fuel valve 5, Fig. 1, is actuated by a diaphragm 2 clamped between two parts of the casing and subject to the throat and full bore pressure from a venturi constriction placed in a passage 30, Fig. 2, leading to threaded bore connected to the heater inlet. The cold water supply pipe 15 is connected to a threaded bore on the valve casing by a nut 16 which also clamps a strainer 18 in position. The main inlet passage has a branch 19 controlled by a screwdown valve 10 leading to the main outlet and branch 27 controlled by an adjustable throttle 14 and screwdown valve 9 leading to the passage 30. The valve 9 controls the supply of cold water to the heater, the valve 10 controls the supply of cold water to the main outlet and the throttle controls the effective pressure below the diaphragm actuating the fuel valve.
