Abstract

462,418. Thermostatic valves. EWART, R. D. March 14, 1936, No. 7731. [Class 135] In means for heating water and other liquids by the direct contact with steam or hot gas under thermostatic control, the steam valve, the heat-sensitive element, and the operative connection between the two are all submerged in the water contained in a tank. A steam nozzle 8 with a piston valve 9 is arranged in a spherical casing 5 inserted between a steam supply pipe 6 and a delivery pipe 7 ; holes 12 in the casing open into a chamber 11 surrounding the nozzle. The valve 9 extends through one side of the casing and is attached to a thermostatic bellows 13 fixed in a housing 14. The steam issuing from the nozzle mixes with water entering the chamber 11 through the holes 12, whereby a silencing effect is obtained. The device may be applied to cooling hot liquids by the introduction thereinto of a cooling fluid.
