Abstract
311,093. Dewrance, Sir J. May 5, 1928. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A regulating-valve is provided with an unbalanced main valve arranged to open in the direction ot flow and adjustably loaded to open. The valve is moved to its closed position by inlet pressure acting on a piston or diaphragm under the control of a balanced auxiliary valve. The Fig. shows the device arranged as a reducing valve. The auxiliary valve 7 is balanced by a diaphragm 6 and is actuated against the action of an adjustable spring 16 by outlet pressure admitted through passages 14, 15 acting on a diaphragm 13. Inlet pressure is admitted to the chamber above the main diaphragm through a passage 8 controlled by a needle valve 9 and a passage 11, and is exhausted to low pressure through the valve 7 and passages 14, 15. A modification is described for controlling the supply of steam to a water heater. In this form the auxiliary valve is balanced by a piston and exhausts to atmosphere.
