Abstract
446,675. Valves. PARKINSON STOVE CO., Ltd., and BARNES, H. V., Stechford, Birming- ham. Nov. 2, 1934, No. 31445. [Class 135] A valve device for controlling the supply of gas to the burner of a gasheated fluid heater is arranged to be under the control of the flow of fluid to or from the heater and also of the temperature of the pilot flame. In the form shown in the Figure, the main gas valve is carried by an actuating diaphragm r and normally held closed by a spring s. The chamber below the diaphragm is connected by a passage v with the throat of a Venturi w through which the outflowing water passes and by a passage x with atmosphere under the control of a valve y oper - ated by a bi-metallic strip subject to the heat of the pilot flame. When this flame is burning the vent is closed, permitting the suction produced by the Venturi to hold the gas valve open against the action of the loading spring. In a modification, the suction effect is produced by a Venturi in the water inlet connection, and in a further modification the valve is inverted so that it may be weight loaded.
