Abstract

Closed solid-fuel stoves; dampers.-A stove for heating brooders, incubators, or for other purposes, in which the air supply under the grate and the exhaust of the flue gases are thermostatically regulated, comprises a combustion chamber 1 connected by a tube 6 controlled by a damper 7 to a chamber 2 which is connected to the flue 9 and also to the atmosphere by an opening 10. The inlet to a tube 4 supplying air beneath the grate is controlled by a damper 5 which, together with the damper 7, is operated through a lever 13 by a thermostat 18 subjected to the temperature of the air or, when a water-jacket is provided on the stove, to that of the water. On rise of temperature above the normal the valve 5 is first closed by the thermostat, and then the valve 7, it being stated that reduced combustion is maintained by air passing down through the tube 6, which is provided with perforations 8 allowing the combustion to be maintained when the damper 7 is closed.
