Abstract

397,386. Thermally-actuated valves. PAYNE, M. and BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd., Teddington Works, Windmill Road, Sunbury, Middlesex. Feb. 14, 1933, No. 4540. [Class 135.] A thermally-actuated valve device for controlling the gas supply to a burner comprises a pair of valves, one w controlling the inlet of gas to a valve chamber and adapted to close when combustion ceases at the main and pilot burners and the other t controlling the outlet from the chamber and operated to maintain a constant temperature. The valve t is mounted on a lever i operated by a bellows a connected to a feeler bulb containing volatile liquid and loaded by a spring k adjusted by a rotatable head m. As shown, the valve opens with rise of temperature but the lever may be arranged to turn about a pivot, e.g. so as to close with rise of pressure. The valve w is mounted on a lever u pivoted to a fitting u which also acts as a guide for a spindle r on an actuating bellows o. The bellows o is connected to a feeler bulb q containing volatile liquid arranged in proximity to the main burner y and pilot burner h. The valve w is opened initially by a pushbutton mounted on a rod adapted to engage an inclined surface on the lever u.
