Abstract
549,408. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. SCOTT, W. P., and WORTHINGTONSIMPSON, Ltd. Sept. 2, 1941, No. 11220. [Class 135] In means for controlling supply to feed water heaters comprising inlet and bypass valves, the former being open and the latter closed till a relief valve is opened, the relief valve is held closed by water pressure until released by means actuated by flooding of the heater casing. The inlet valve 23, Fig. 1, is carried by a piston 25 which has a valve surface 26 for controlling the bypass passage 22 and is normally retained in the position shown by pressure admitted to the cylinder 28 through a passage 29 having an adjustable control valve 30. When water rises to a predetermined level in a chamber 1 connected to the heater casing, a float rises to put a pressure liquid supply pipe 11 to exhaust through a pipe 10, thus reducing the pressure in a chamber 40 so that a spring 36 opens a relief valve 32, thus causing closure of the inlet valve 23 and opening of the bypass valve 26. The float in the chamber 1 is locked in its upper position and reset by a handle 1b. A battery of heaters in series may each have a float chamber, and a single unit comprising the inlet and bypass valves. Manually operated valves enable a faulty heater to be isolated.
