Abstract

253,317. British Arca Regulators, Ltd., and Lindsay, T. May 1, 1925. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-In a thermostatic mixing-valve, a single valve element controls the hot and cold fluids, and is actuated by a relay controlled by a thermostat in the outlet chamber. The sliding valve V controls the passages 1, 2 for hot and cold water, and the mixture passes over a linear-expansion thermostat 19, 20, and thence to a mixing chamber. The valve spindle 8 is connected to a diaphragm 9 in a chamber 13, and is influenced by a spring 10. Liquid is supplied through a pipe 11 and valve 12 to the chamber 13, and thence through a pipe 14 to a jet 15. The liquid impinges against a lever 16 controlled by a spring 21 and pivoted at 17. The other end of the lever is connected to the rod 19, so that the outlet 15 is more or less obstructed by the lever 16, depending on the temperature in the chamber 4. The resulting pressure variations in the chamber 13 cause a movement of the diaphragm 9, and consequently of the valve V to adjust the proportions of hot and cold water.
