Abstract
261,196. British Area Regulators, Ltd., and Lindsay, T. Dec. 1, 1925. Controlling and moderating superheat.-The temperature .of superheated steam is controlled by dividing the Steam into two controlled portions, passing one through an indirectly heated water or other liquid heater, and mixing the cooled steam with the other portion, the temperature of the mixed steam actuating a thermostatic device which controls the valve which regulates the volume of the two divided portions of steam. The water heater comprises a cylinder 1 having inlet and outlet 7, 8 for the water and provided with. heating tubes 2. The steam inlet valve 11 controls the proportions of steam passing through the heater 1, and direct through pipe 15 to the outlet 17. The valve 11 is actuated by a quadrant 28, chain 25, and pressure cylinder 22, the latter being controlled bv a thermostat 18 through a relay. 'The thermostat and relay are as described in Specification 206,154, [Class 64 (ii), Heating systems &c.]. If the amount of steam passing through the water heater is small, it may tend to be condensed wholly, and an additional thermostatic relay may be inserted in the conduit 16 to control the water supply to the heater. If the amount of steam passing through the water heater be sufficiently large to raise the water to boiling point, the water supply will be automatically increased by the second thermostat.
