Abstract

472,132. Heating water. MOFFETT, A. O., and OSBORNE, C. April 18, 1936, No. 11187. [Class 64 (i)] In a hot-water supply tank of the kind comprising a circulating tank a associated with a supply cistern e the cold water from which is fed to a chamber d in or below the base of the tank a, the only outlet from this chamber is through a small opening m or pipe which connects it directly to the circulating tank. The chamber d forms an expansion trap to prevent hot-water being forced into the cold water supply-pipe j, due to expansion of the water in the tank a. In the construction shown, the supply cistern e is carried by a perforated skirt f on top of the tank a. The outflow pipe r is centrally connected to the top of the tank a, allowing the tank to be angularly adjusted for connecting the flow and return pipes to the boiler. The expansion chamber d may be a separate tank beneath the tank a and connected to it by a pipe.
