[Class 64 (ii).] A hot - water heating system comprises a large boiler 1, a pump 4, and an auxiliary container 7 adapted to receive the relatively cold liquid from the radiators 2 when there is an abnormally large consumption of heat. For this purpose a return valve 6 to the boiler tends to close when the pressure within the boiler falls, and the water is forced into the container 7, which has a capacity equal to the difference between the highest and lowest volume of water in the boiler. A rise of pressure within the boiler opens the valve, and the water from the container returns to the boiler. The steam spaces of the container and boiler also communicate through a pipe 8, which serves as an overflow pipe for all the water when the return valve 6 is closed. Several boilers may have a common auxiliary container in the return pipe before it branches to the boilers. The container has an overflow pipe with a number of branches equal to the number of boilers, the branches having valves and entering the container at different heights.
