Abstract

493,548. Heat - storing apparatus. RUTHSACCUMULATOR AKTIEBOLAG. March 8, 1937, No. 6812. Convention date, March 7, 1936. [Class 64 (ii)] In a water-heating plant of the kind having a heat accumulator 11 and wherein steam is supplied from a power plant by a long distance pipe 5, e.g. over 100 yards, the water is heated in a preheater 7 by steam from the pipe 5, and the amount of such steam is regulated by a valve 6 at the end of the pipe 5 adjacent the power plant and controlled in accordance with the load on the plant, while the flow of water through the preheater is controlled by a second valve 15 controlled in accordance with the steam pressure at the outer end of the long distance pipe 5 or in accordance with the temperature of the heating water. Steam passes from a boiler 1 through a turbine 2 or a byepass valve 4 to a low pressure line 3, and condensed steam from the outer end of the pipe 5 is returned to the boiler by a pipe 8. An accumulator 11 is connected between a forward flow pipe 9 and a return pipe 10 for the heated water, which is circulated by a pump 12 through the preheater 7. Discharge of water in the accumulator is controlled by valves 13, 14 so that the temperature of the water remains constant. Several heating units may be connected to one power plant by separate long distance pipes each provided with a throttling valve adjacent the power plant so that the units may be heated either together equally or each in turn. When the steam supply through the long distance pipe 5 and the pressure therein falls off, the temperature setting of the water flow valve 15 may be lowered by a temperature regulator 45 in the pipe 9 set to predetermined temperatures by a device 44 in accordance with the pressure in the outer end of the pipe 5. The water thus heated to a lower temperature, e.g. 120‹ C., may be stored in a separate accumulator 35 and may later be circulated and heated to the higher temperature, e.g. 150‹ C., when the steam supply permits. Cold water may be added by a pipe 37 to the hot water flow pipe 9.
